Welcome
Hi, I'm Tom Dalrymple thank you for visiting my page.
Psychotherapy is a wonderful transformational process. Choosing a therapist who can meet and support you is essential. I hope I have provided enough information for you to get a feel of who I am and whether we could work together. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist in training. I offer psychotherapy for individual adults at a reduced rate.
My therapeutic approach
You will experience me as interested, friendly and open. I am authentic, I will feedback to you honestly, but I don't have the answers. I will help you to find your own answers from within yourself.
I try to understand what it is like to be you, by really listening to you. I will use my training, experience and the emotion I feel through my body to try to understand you, always checking in with you and welcoming correction. I will encourage you to explore your present experience as well as your past, your dreams and physical sensations, but always at a pace that suits you and only when you feel safe enough. Exploring yourself and your past openly is often a frightening and painful process. Having been through years of therapy myself I understand what it takes. I completely respect your individual process and I will do my best to support you in it.
Over time your sense of self will alter, you'll be more aware of your emotions and more space will develop between what you feel and how you act. You will develop more compassion for yourself, bringing confidence and resilience. You will gain new perspectives on your past and present relationships.
Psychotherapy makes us more receptive to the world and to others. Greater awareness of the natural world is painful in this time of climate breakdown. It is also a great source of joy and sanctuary.
About me
I was born in Stroud and I have deep connection with the area. My love of nature developed through walking the Cotswold Hills and working on farms as a teenager. My thirty year career in practical nature conservation began at Slimbridge. I brought my own children up in the Forest of Dean which I have come to appreciate for it's peaceful interior and sense of wildness.
My appreciation of the natural world affects my work as a psychotherapist. I think I have absorbed some of the stillness from so many hours working alone in woods and wetlands. I have a deep belief in the tendancy for natural systems including people to heal and grow given the opportunity.
I am in my final year of a six year MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy with Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling.
Practicalities
All sessions are 50 minutes long and cost £40. The first session is a chance to meet each other and see if there is the potential to work together. If we decide to continue we will arrange a regular time to meet each week.
I prefer to work face to face from the Ownzone therapy rooms in central Stroud, but I am able to meet online as well.
